It's Election Day in Windsor's Ward 7

There are 12 candidates running for the council seat in Windsor's Ward 7, but by the end of the night, there will be only one winner.

Monday is Election Day in the ward.

The polls are open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the WFCU Centre.

There were four days of advance polling last week, wrapping up on Saturday.

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, candidates have had an unusually long campaign. The nomination period ended on March 13, but soon after, the City of Windsor declared a State of Emergency and postponed the byelection.

The new date was announced once Windsor-Essex entered stage three of reopening its economy.

The winner Monday night will replace Irek Kusmierczyk, who left the seat vacant when he was elected the Member of Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh almost one year ago.

Kusmierczyk, himself, won the seat in a byelection when Percy Hatfield was elected the Member of Provincial Parliament for Windsor-Tecumseh in 2013.
