More than $26 million is being invested in Tecumseh to help prevent future flooding.
"We know firsthand what devastation climate change and flooding wreaks in our community, the havoc and the damage and so this is a huge step forward," said Windsor-Tecumseh MP Irek Kusmierczyk.

Phase 1 of the project includes the consolidation of the Scully and St. Mark's Pump Station, the decommissioning of the current St. Mark's Pump Station, and improvements to the storm sewers in these locations. Planning for this phase is already underway and construction is expected to start in 2022.
Phase 2 will include improvements to the PJ Cecile Pump Station and improvements to the storm sewers in the area.
The federal government is investing $10.7 million to the project while the town has committed over $16 million.
“My council colleagues and I have heard from residents that more needs to be done to protect them from flooding and flood mitigation is a vital priority for our council. This funding will assist in building our town’s resiliency and keeping our community and its residents safe,” said Tecumseh Mayor Gary McNamara.
Construction on both phases must be completed by 2028 in order to receive all of the federal funding from the Disaster Mitigation and Adaptation Fund.
