Windsor man charged in motor vehicle theft

Windsor police patrol officers helped to return a stolen vehicle to its owner.

Officers were in the area of Dufferin Place on Monday when they noticed a car and identified it as one that had been stolen earlier in Tecumseh.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area and saw the car pull into a parking lot on Ouellette Avenue. The driver abandoned the vehicle, blocking other customers trying to use the parking lot.

When the driver saw the officers approach he took off, jumped a fence, and headed westbound.

Police caught up with the driver in the backyard of a house on Victoria Avenue.

Windsor resident Jonathon Grosse, 28, is charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and operating a motor vehicle while prohibited. None of the charges have been proven in court.
