Walking track at Essex Centre Sports Complex to reopen

The Town of Essex will reopen the walking track at the Essex Centre Sports Complex on Monday.

As of Monday, the track will be open from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to the general public, but there are some new safety protocols in place.

Visitors will have to wear a mask, sign in, and undergo a screening for COVID-19. Users also need to maintain social distance from other walkers and follow hand hygiene practices.

"As the days get colder, we know residents are looking for somewhere to be active while staying safe," said Deputy CAO and Director of Community Services, Doug Sweet.

By closing at 2:30 p.m. each day, town staff will have time to disinfect high-touch points before opening for ice rink user groups.

Because of the rules around limiting the size of groups, the track will be closed on the weekends.

The town reopened the Libro Credit Union Rink at the Essex Centre Sports Complex at the end of October. It is only open to user groups, but the town hopes to welcome individual users soon.

Repairs on the rink continue after the town identified heaving issues.
