WECHU reports another death due to COVID-19

Another Windsor resident has died due to complications connected with COVID-19.

According to the Windsor Essex County Health Unit, a man in his 60s passed away Wednesday after being in the hospital for at least a week. He is the 78th person in the community to pass away from COVID-19.

The WECHU reported another 33 cases of COVID-19 Thursday. Among the new cases reported are 14 that are close contacts of confirmed cases, four healthcare workers, one travel-related case, and four that were community-acquired. Health unit staff are still investigating 10 of the cases.

There are 16 people in the hospital receiving treatment for COVID-19, four of whom are in the intensive care unit.

There are 336 people in the community with active cases of COVID-19.

The health unit is monitoring outbreaks at five workplaces in the community and four long-term care facilities.

The province of Ontario reported 1,478 new cases of COVID-19. There were 21 more deaths throughout the province.
