Four displaced after McGregor fire

Four tenants are safe after a fire damaged a building in Amherstburg Wednesday.

Amherstburg firefighters were called to the Naples Pizza on Walker Road in McGregor at around 9 a.m. Flames were centred on the business but were also affecting adjacent businesses and apartments.

There were no injuries, but the fire took several hours to put out.

One of the apartments above the pizzeria, which housed a family of three, was destroyed. Another was damaged. All four people involved are looking for other accommodations.

Traffic on Walker Road in the area of Stewart Street was stopped while the battle was going on and during the cleanup. Drivers were detoured around the area.

Firefighters from Essex assisted Amherstburg with the fire.

A cause of the blaze and a damage estimate have not yet been determined. An investigator from the Ontario Fire Marshal's Office was due on the scene to figure out how the fire started.
