Over 100 cases of COVID-19 added to WECHU case load

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 111 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday.

The health unit continues to investigate the transmission source of 90 cases.

Among the cases identified, 19 are close contacts of previously confirmed cases, and two community-acquired cases.

There are 620 active cases of COVID-19 being followed by the health unit.

There are 37 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the hospital, seven of whom are being treated in the intensive care unit. There are also 73 suspected cases of COVID-19 in local hospitals.

There are 25 active outbreaks in the community in long-term care homes, schools, and workplaces.

The health has confirmed another on-campus case of COVID-19 at the University of Windsor. This latest case is unrelated to previously reported cases.

Over 700 students have been dismissed from Windsor-Essex schools due to a case of COVID-19 linked to their school cohort.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
