Outbreak declared at L.A. Desmarais Catholic Elementary School

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has declared an outbreak of COVID-19 at a school in Forest Glade in Windsor.

So far, two cases in one classroom have been confirmed, but the entire cohort at L.A. Desmarais has been told to self-isolate and get tested.

Schools are closed, so the students do not need to be dismissed.

Those asked to self-monitor for symptoms of the virus are considered at a high-risk for exposure, but the rest of the school's students and staff are at a low-risk.

"It is essential for the students to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms every day," said Medical Officer of Health Doctor Wajid Ahmed. "If you have any symptoms, go get tested."

The health unit is working with the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board to manage the outbreak.

Parents and guardians have been notified, but anyone with questions about the outbreak can call the health unit's Healthy Schools department at 519-258-2146 ext. 1555.
