Winners of Essex Candy Cane Lane Christmas Lights & Decorating Contest announced

The Town of Essex has announced the winners of its big holiday contest showcasing the best decorations in the municipality.

In the Merry & Bright category, which was made up of individual homes, the first place prize goes to 6060 Catherine Duransky Drive in Harrow. The owners of that home will receive $1,000 in Essex BIA Winter Downtown Dollars, which can be used instead of cash at businesses in the town.

The second-place prize of $500 in Essex BIA Winter Downtown Dollars went to the owners of 134 Dowswell Street in Essex Centre. The third-place winner is 134 Kim Court, also in Essex Centre. The owners of that home will win $250 in the coupons.

The second category was for an entire residential block. it was called "Candy Cane Lane." First place went to 118 to 121 Kim Court, second to 2591 to 2627 County Road 12 in Gesto, and third to the Townsview Drive cul-de-sac in Essex Centre.

The business that placed first was First Steps. Little House of Cupcakes won second, and third place went to Kennedy Funeral Home.

The winners were chosen by the town's Arts, Culture and Tourism Committee.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
