HDGH partners with Village at St. Clair to manage outbreak

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare is taking on a management role at The Village at St. Clair as they try to get the COVID-19 outbreak under control.

According to Schlegel Villages website, there are 55 active COVID-19 cases among residents and 52 among staff. Another 35 residents contracted the virus and have since recovered. A total of four residents have passed away after contracting COVID-19.

Starting Thursday, President and CEO of HDGH Janice Kaffer will be on-site with other members of the management team and staff to take the lead on outbreak management.

“HDGH will assume responsibility for priorities such as enhanced oversight related to communications, Infection Prevention and Control and Education, Resident and Family Relations, Reporting, Physician Oversight and on-site Leadership. This unique collaborative partnership endorsed by all parties is an industry-leading initiative that can be a template for other communities,” said a release from Hotel Dieu Grace Healthcare.

Joanne Potts, VP of Operations with Schlegel Villages is also stationed full time at Schlegel Villages.

The two teams are also working closely with the Windsor Essex County Health Unit.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
