Labour ministry confirms fatal Cantelon Drive accident

A 24-year-old has died following an industrial accident in east Windsor on Boxing Day.

Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday on Cantelon Drive near Kew Drive. Reports from the scene indicated that a structural collapse had occurred, and was confirmed on Tuesday by the Ontario Ministry of Labour.

"It was reported that a worker was fatally injured during the demolition of a wall," Ministry spokesman Kalem McSween told Blackburn News. "Two MLTSD inspectors attended the site. One order was issued to the employer, A-1 Quality Concrete, Demolition and Excavation. "

McSween said investigators were back on scene Sunday, issuing six additional orders and one requirement to the concrete company.

The property that the accident occurred at previously endured $500,000 in damage after a fire on December 20.

The ministry continues to investigate the incident.
