Man charged with impaired driving in Windsor crash

A 26-year-old man has been charged following a single-vehicle collision over New Year's weekend.

Windsor police say it happened shortly after 9 p.m. Sunday on Deerbrook Drive near Palms Crescent in the Forest Glade neighbourhood. Officers arrived to find that one vehicle was lying on its side. Two people were inside it at the time of the crash.

The driver showed signs of impairment and was arrested on the spot, according to Sergeant Steve Betteridge. The passenger was treated in hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The unidentified man has been charged with driving while impaired causing bodily harm, and driving with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in blood. These charges have not been proven in court.

The suspect was released on an undertaking with a future court date.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
