Suspect charged after theft in Comber store

Quick thinking from staff at a Lakeshore business helped find a suspect who was charged with theft.

Ontario Provincial Police say the incident happened Tuesday at a store on Main Street in Comber. Officers responded to a call about a theft in progress.

Employees told police the suspect arrived in a vehicle, but physically ran from the business. They were able to provide officers with specific information about the suspect's description, direction, and method of travel, according to Constable Amanda Allen.

The suspect was found a short time later.

Joseph Washburn, 41, of Kingsville, has been charged with theft of property under $5,000, and failure to comply with an undertaking. He will have a chance to defend himself against the charges in a Windsor court on March 5.

Anyone who may have additional information on this incident should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122, or Crime Stoppers.
