Active COVID-19 cases declining in Windsor-Essex

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Windsor Essex continues to go down as people recover and the number of daily new cases falls.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 68 new cases of the virus on Monday. There are now 1,520 active cases in the community. Since March 2020, 9,996 people have recovered.

The health unit also reported one new death in the region. A woman in her 90s, who lived in a long-term care facility, passed away after contracting the virus. There have now been 291 deaths connected to COVID-19 since March 2020.

There are currently 107 people receiving treatment for COVID-19 in the hospital. There are 16 COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit.

The health unit is managing 52 active outbreaks in the community including 25 workplace outbreaks, 19 long-term care and retirement home outbreaks, and six hospital outbreaks.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
