One dead after single-vehicle crash in Leamington

One person is dead and another injured following a collision Tuesday afternoon in Leamington.

Ontario Provincial Police and Essex-Windsor EMS were called around 3 p.m. to Mersea Road 6 between Highway 77 and Bruner Road. A passenger vehicle had collided with a light pole.

Both of the vehicle's occupants were rushed to hospital. One of them succumbed to their injuries, the other was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Leamington firefighters also responded to the call, according to OPP Constable Amanda Allen.

Mersea Road 6 between Highway 77 and Bruner Road was closed for several hours while the OPP Technical Collision Investigators team worked to determine how the crash happened.  It reopened late Tuesday night.

The name of the deceased has not been released. Further information will be provided as it is released.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
