Windsor Regional Hospital secures spot downtown for future vaccination clinic

When the time comes to vaccinate the general public for COVID-19, Windsor Regional Hospital will need several clinics, but it has already secured the location of one in downtown Windsor.

The hospital has partnered with the University of Windsor to set up a vaccination clinic at the Windsor Hall building at Pitt Street West and Ferry Street.

The building also houses the university's School of Social Work and the Department of Continuing Education.

When the clinic would open still is not known. It depends on shipments of the Pfizer vaccine to Canada in the coming weeks. Pfizer, and now Moderna, have reduced deliveries of its vaccines because of production issues.

Canada is still in Phase One of its rollout plan where residents in long-term care and retirement homes and healthcare staff are vaccinated. The general public will not get their shots until Phase Three.

"This project is part of the Unversity of Windsor's commitment to do as much as possible to help the community address the impact of COVID-19," said University President Robert Gordon.

Meanwhile, the staff at local hospitals, long-term care facilities, retirement homes, and other congregate settings continue to get their vaccinations at the Sportsplex at St. Clair College. So far, 8,000 have.

Should that space need to be converted back into a field hospital, the effort will continue at Windsor Hall.
