OPP bust illegal bar in Leamington

Like something out of a movie about the 1920s Prohibition Era, Ontario Provincial Police busted a modern-day speakeasy in Leamington.

The OPP was investigating a complaint around 10:30 p.m. last Saturday when they arrived at a location on Erie Street North.

When the officers arrived, they spotted a large number of people fleeing the area.

They were able to arrest one suspect, but it was on an unrelated matter.

Meanwhile, the OPP hopes the public can help by calling them with any information they may have about the illegal bar at 1-888-310-1122. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go online to www.catchcrooks.com.

While the region is in lockdown, bars remain closed for in-house service.
