COVID-19 outbreak declared at St. John Vianney School

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at St. John Vianney Catholic Elementary School.

Another positive case has been identified in one of the two cohorts that were dismissed on April 6. According to the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board, the positive case has been identified as a variant of concern.

All students and staff identified as high-risk close contacts will be contacted directly by the health unit and given instructions.

At this time the outbreak is contained to the cohorts identified. All other staff and students have been deemed low-risk and may continue to attend school as usual, however, schools are on spring break this week.

The school board is requesting all parents continue to monitor their children for symptoms of COVID-19 and to keep them at home if they are showing any symptoms.

This is one of three school outbreaks being monitored by the health unit. There are also outbreaks at St. Peter Catholic School and Centennial Central Public School.
