Health unit declares COVID-19 outbreak at Amherstburg Public School

Parents with children who go to Amherstburg Public School may have received a letter from the school's principal warning of an outbreak of COVID-19.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit confirmed two cases within the same cohort of students, and the risk of exposure is considered high.

Principal Kris Marentette wrote the health unit would contact students and staff who had contact with the infected pupils with instructions. Parents should watch their children for symptoms, including a fever, cough, difficulty breathing, and the loss of their sense of smell or taste.

If the health unit does not call you, your child is not considered a close contact.

The Greater Essex County District School Board also reported one case of COVID-19 at William G. Davis Public School on Wednesday. Cases at Kingsville High School and Queen Elizabeth Public School were confirmed in the past week.

Students in Windsor-Essex and across the province are currently learning from home until school boards receive direction from the Ministry of Education. A date for return to in-class instruction has not been announced.
