OPP officer assaulted during arrest

A Leamington resident is facing charges of dangerous driving and assaulting a police officer after an incident near the OPP Leamington detachment Sunday night.

Police say a member of the Ontario Provincial Police was nearly struck by a motorist in front of the detachment on Clark Street West just after 11 p.m.

Officers then patrolled the area to find the driver. The vehicle was seen driving by the detachment again and officers were able to stop the vehicle and arrest the driver.

Police said the driver became combative and assaulted an officer. The officer received minor injuries in the altercation.

Ghislain Desjardin, 68, is facing charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, and assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm. The charges have not been proven in court.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
