Ontario Provincial Police have confirmed it is investigating a burglary at a popular east-end ice cream parlour.
According to the official Facebook page of Slinky's in Tecumseh, a van was driven into the parking lot just before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. A man was then seen pacing in front of the business, then using an object to break open the glass door and gain entry.
The store's security cameras showed the man, wearing a face mask and a baseball cap, going behind the counter and attempted to bust open the cash register. He soon left with an undisclosed amount of money. It was not clear if anything else was taken.
The parlour's owners posted the surveillance video online. The broken glass door was repaired Tuesday morning, and the business opened later that day as usual.
OPP Constable Steven Duguay told Blackburn News that investigators have taken a report about a break-and-enter and are trying to identify the suspect and vehicle involved.
Slinky's has been a popular warm-weather destination in Tecumseh since 1983, according to the Facebook page. The business on Lesperance Road at Riverside Drive East sells both ice cream and soft-serve treats.
Anyone who can identify the suspect, his vehicle, or provide additional information should call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to be eligible for a cash reward.
