One death, 16 new COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex

A woman in her 60s has lost her life due to complications related to COVID-19 as active cases rose in Windsor-Essex.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 16 new COVID-19 infections on Saturday, bringing the number of active cases to 62. Of the new cases, seven are close contacts of confirmed cases, six are community-acquired, while three remain under investigation.

The region has recorded a total of 16,733 COVID-19 cases and 434 COVID-related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Nine people infected with the virus are currently being treated in hospital. There is also currently one workplace outbreak in the region and one community outbreak.

A total of 160,354 residents in Windsor-Essex have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 107,588 residents have received both doses.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
