Woman charged in downtown Windsor assault

A 41-year-old woman is facing assault charges following an incident in downtown Windsor Monday afternoon.

Windsor police say officers were called to Wyandotte Street West near Church Street at around 1:50 p.m. The complaint was about an elderly male being assaulted in the roadway by a woman. Police found the victim lying on the side of the road with serious injuries. The victim was taken to hospital by EMS.

A suspect was quickly located and arrested, according to Constable Darius Goze.

It was determined that the attack took place without provocation, and the victim and suspect did not know each other.

Leah Pierce of Windsor is charged with assault causing bodily harm and assault with a weapon. These charges have not been proven in court.

Goze said the Major Crime Unit is proceeding with the investigation. Police have asked people in the area to check security camera footage and give them a call if they see anything unusual.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
