Windsor Assembly workers to return July 5

Workers at Stellantis' Windsor Assembly Plant have received some long-overdue news.

Unifor Local 444, the union representing hourly employees, announced via Twitter that the plant's two shifts will resume production on Monday, July 5. The news was confirmed by Stellantis Canada spokesperson Lou Ann Gosselin to Blackburn News later Wednesday afternoon.

The plant had been shut down completely since March 29 due to a severe microchip shortage that has wreaked havoc with automotive operations around the world. Stellantis had previously announced a partial reopening for the end of May.

Neither the automaker nor the union has provided additional information.
