Empty boat triggers search on Detroit River

Police are looking for the owner of a pontoon boat that prompted a search on the Detroit River.

The Ontario Provincial Police said its Marine Unit located the empty boat on Saturday on the water south of Boblo Island near the end of the Livingstone Channel.

Upon discovering the boat, the Essex County OPP Marine Unit and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre-Trenton searched the area. Ultimately it was determined that the boat had been washed away from its original docking location and the search was terminated.

The boat is described as an 18-foot pontoon boat with a small outboard motor, a flat deck with no railings, and no registration numbers.

Anyone missing this style of boat is asked to contact Essex County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
