Three-year deal for Kautex Textron workers

Workers at Kautex Textron in Windsor ratified a new three-year contract on Canada Day.

Unifor Local 195 represents 237 workers at the facility which makes auto parts for the Ford Ranger, Chevy Equinox, Toyota RAV 4, and Lexus.

The union said 86 per cent of the membership took part virtually in the ratification vote, and 80 per cent of them voted in favour.

The deal will give the workers a 6.9 per cent increase over the life of the contract, improve pension benefits while increasing contributions to the pension, offer workers a retirement incentive worth $25,000, and bonuses at Christmas and for performance.

In two years, wages will start at $25.44 an hour for an operator and $36.43 an hour for skilled trades workers.

"Despite very tough economic conditions and public health restrictions, our bargaining committee negotiated a very strong agreement," said Local President Emile Nabbout. "This agreement is one of the best agreements we have bargained this year."

The contract deadline was June 25.
