One new COVID-19 related death in Windsor-Essex

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 21 new COVID-19 cases and one additional death linked to the virus.

A man in his 80s passed away after testing positive for COVID-19.

There have been 437 deaths in Windsor-Essex connected to the virus since the start of the pandemic.

Among the new cases reported today, eight are close contacts of previously confirmed infections, seven were acquired in the community, and one is travel-related. Health unit staff are still investigating five cases.

Active cases continue to climb in the region with 157 reported Wednesday morning.  Of those, 40 involve a variant of concern.

There is one patient in the hospital being treated for COVID-19.

To date, 76.8 per cent of eligible residents in Windsor-Essex have been partially vaccinated, and 68.6 per cent have been fully vaccinated.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
