No hybrid classes at GECDSB

The Greater Essex County School Board is abandoning hybrid learning models for the upcoming school year.

All students who registered for remote learning will take their classes through the Greater Essex Virtual Secondary School.

Last week, the board announced around 600 secondary school students chose to attend school virtually for the 2021-2022 school year.

The school board had originally announced students who signed up for online learning would attend class in their home schools via web-cams in the classroom.

Later, staff said students would be placed in online classes, e-learning classes or hybrid classes depending on their course options.

Now, the school board has indicated all secondary school students who registered for remote learning will take classes through the virtual school.

All students whether online or in the classroom will take four classes a semester. Students will participate in two, 150-minute classes each day. Students will participate in Course 1 and Course 2 in Week 1, and in Course 3 and Course 4 in Week 2 to limit the number of student interactions throughout the day.
