Another COVID-19 related death reported in Windsor-Essex

There are nearly 400 active cases of COVID-19 in Windsor-Essex and another death was reported in the region.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 158 cases since August 20. Among the new cases, 49 were close-contacts of previously confirmed infections, 30 infections were caught in the community, five cases are outbreak related, and five cases are travel related. Health unit staff continue to investigate 69 new cases.

There are 391 active cases now and 202 involve a variant of concern.

The health unit reported one additional death in the region connected to COVID-19. A woman in her 50s passed away after testing positive for the virus. Her vaccination status was not reported. There have been 439 deaths in the region connected to COVID-19.

There are nine active outbreaks being monitored by the health unit.

To date, 71 per cent of Windsor-Essex residents aged 12 and over are fully vaccinated.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
