If you still need a COVID-19 vaccine, a mobile vaccination clinic makes two stops in Windsor-Essex Friday.
The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit announced that the "Destination Vaccination" initiative includes a Friday morning stop at Dieppe Gardens in downtown Windsor, followed by an afternoon in Lakeshore on the West Beach at Lakeview Park.
Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain expressed appreciation to the health unit and urged residents who need one or both vaccines to take advantage.
"As our region once again struggles with growing case counts, the effort to get as many shots into arms as possible is more important than ever," said Bain in a media release. "I am urging anyone who has not been vaccinated to attend this event, or make an appointment with a local healthcare provider as soon as possible."
The health unit has teamed up with Transit Windsor to help boost vaccination numbers by bringing health unit nurses and vaccine supplies into key locations by bus. Right now, this is a pilot project, but additional routes could be established if the program is successful.
As of Friday morning, 71.6 per cent of eligible Windsor-Essex residents are fully vaccinated from COVID-19.
Anyone born in 2009 or older is eligible for a vaccine. The mass vaccination clinic at the former Devonshire Mall Sears takes both appointments and walk-ins from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. seven days a week. Select pharmacies and doctor's offices across the region also offer vaccines by appointment.
