Driver destroys patio of Windsor restaurant

A driver has destroyed a Windsor restaurant's patio after losing control of his vehicle early Sunday morning.

Nobody was hurt in the crash that happened at 2:30 a.m. but the impact left debris and damaged tables and chairs.

Mark Peltier, Owner of Native Wonders Gourmet Grub at 1235 Ottawa Street, said the driver had lost control of his car and crashed into the sidewalk.

"He took out a city bench, a metal recycling container, and took out my patio," said Peltier. "He then took out one of the great big cast iron light poles on Ottawa Street."

Peltier said he did not think the driver was impaired by alcohol and that the driver was never taken into custody.

"I think it had to do with the road conditions and speed as well," he said.

More to come.
