Increase of overdoses noted in the community

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued an alert after 12 fentanyl overdoses were reported in the last week.

Between September 14 and September 20, Windsor Regional Hospital reported nine incidents, while Erie Shores Healthcare reported the other three.

The health unit indicated this is significantly higher than the number of overdoses the region usually sees during this time period.

These alerts are issued to notify health care partners, emergency services and community groups of the increase in an effort to create links between the cases and identify the cause of the increase.
