Number of active cases drops below 200

The number of active COVID-19 cases in Windsor-Essex has fallen below 200.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 26 new infections on Friday and an active case count of 199.

The health unit also reported a man in his 80s recently passed away after testing positive for COVID-19. There have been 462 deaths in the region connected to the illness.

Among the new infections, 10 are close contacts of confirmed cases, 11 are community-acquired, one is travel-related, and four are still under investigation.

Health Unit staff are monitoring outbreaks at eight workplaces, eight schools, one long-term care facility and one shelter.

Local hospitals are treating 13 patients for complications related to COVID-19. Windsor Regional Hospital is reporting eight patients in its care, all of them are unvaccinated.

To date, 83.6 per cent of eligible residents in Windsor-Essex have been fully vaccinated against the virus.
