Flood watch issued for Windsor-Essex region

With heavy rain expected overnight, the local conservation authority has issued a flood watch for the Windsor-Essex region.

The Essex Region Conservation Authority said there is an elevated risk of flooding along rivers, streams and creeks due to 40-60 millimetres of rain that is expected to fall between Sunday afternoon and Monday evening.

Environment Canada has also issued a rainfall warning for the region.

The conservation authority said recent rains have kept the ground wet and localized flooding and ponding are likely in low-lying areas.  Elevated wind speeds are also expected Sunday evening, which could slow the rate at which watercourses can drain.

The flood watch will remain in effect until Tuesday at 12 p.m.
