WECHU reports 19 new COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 19 new cases of COVID-19 in the community on Friday morning.

Among the new cases, eight are close contacts of previously confirmed infections, eight were acquired in the community, and three are still under investigation.

There are 174 active infections in the community, with the majority of the cases involving a variant of concern.

The number of outbreaks at schools has gone down considerably. There are only two schools experiencing an outbreak right now, Tecumseh Vista Academy and Princess Elizabeth Public School.

The health unit is also monitoring outbreaks at two workplaces and five community settings.

Local hospitals are treating 12 patients who have tested positive for COVID-19.

To date, 85.5 per cent of eligible residents have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while 81.2 per cent have been fully vaccinated.
