The City of Windsor honoured three property owners with built heritage awards this week.
The awards were issued to projects that persevered history. The plaques were awarded for work done to the Walker Power Building, Honourable W.c. Kennedy Collegiate and John Campbell Public School.
The projects were selected by the Development & Heritage Standing Committee.
“The City of Windsor’s Built Heritage Awards provide an opportunity to recognize individuals and organizations for long-time heritage stewardship and to celebrate innovative rehabilitations across the city,” said Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens. “City Council extends congratulations to the teams at The Walker Power Building, Kennedy Collegiate, and John Campbell Public School. This year’s recipients have all breathed new life into heritage sites through a focus on preservation, restoration, rehabilitation, and adaptive reuse efforts. The City commends these strong community partners for impactful projects that help transform Windsor’s landscape, to the benefit of the entire community.”
The Walker Power Building was constructed in 1911-1913 and was vacant for decades before it was restored last year.
W.C. Kennedy Collegiate was built in 1929 and recently underwent $5 million in both exterior repairs and interior upgrades.
The John Campbell Public School was constructed from 1926-1927 and recently underwent needed masonry repairs.
Each project was presented with a heritage designation plaque to display.
