UPDATE: One confirmed dead in Lakeshore crash

Ontario Provincial Police say a passenger involved in a serious crash in Lakeshore Wednesday night has died.

In addition to the OPP, Lakeshore Fire and Rescue and Windsor Essex EMS responded at around 7:15 p.m. to the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of County Road 42 and Renaud Line.

Constable Steven Duguay said Thursday afternoon that a passenger in one of the vehicles succumbed to their injuries. The victim's identity has not been released.

The driver was treated in hospital for injuries, then remanded into custody pending a bail hearing Friday at a Windsor court.

The 55-year-old driver from Lakeshore has been charged with impaired driving of a vehicle causing death, and dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death. The charges have not been proven in court.

County Road 42 was shut down between Rourke Line Road and Puce Road. Renaud was closed between Walls Road and the entrance to the Atlas Tube Centre.  Those roads reopened just before 6 a.m.

Anyone who saw the collision can call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips can also be left online at www.catchcrooks.com.
