Acting Medical Officer of Health Doctor Shanker Nesathurai admitted the investigation isn't over, but so far, it doesn't appear forged vaccination documents were used at a restaurant in Kingsville.
Forty-five cases of COVID-19 have been connected to a party at Elite Restaurant now.
Anyone who visited the restaurant between November 18 and December 2 is urged to get tested for the virus.
Shanker expressed doubt a fake vaccine passport would have sparked the outbreak on Wednesday. He said a variety of factors likely caused the spread. Public health officials were investigating how so many people became infected.
Public health officials fear the outbreak will lead to infections in the broader community, including schools, workplaces, and even among vulnerable migrant workers. However, Windsor-Essex County Health Unit CEO Nicole Dupuis clarified on Thursday aside from the broader concern, temporary foreign workers employed on area farms have not been connected to the party.
Shanker repeated on Thursday, should the investigation uncover any criminal activity, like forgery of vaccine documents, public health officials will call the Ontario Provincial Police.
The restaurant is currently screening its calls.
