WECHU reports another 98 COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 98 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday morning.

It also reported the death of a man in his 50s who passed away after testing positive for the virus.

Among the new cases identified, 34 cases are close contacts of confirmed cases, 19 cases were acquired in the community, and two cases are travel related. Case and contact management staff are still investigating 43 cases.  There are 572 active cases in the community now.

Local hospitals are treating 30 patients who are fighting the virus. Windsor Regional Hospital is reporting 22 patients in its care. Among those patients, 13 are unvaccinated, three are partially vaccinated, and six are fully vaccinated.

The health unit continues to monitor 30 outbreaks in the community. There are 16 workplace outbreaks, 5 outbreaks at community facilities, seven school or daycare outbreaks, and two outbreaks at long-term care or retirement homes.

To date, 82.1 per cent of eligible residents are partially vaccinated and 77.4 per cent are fully vaccinated.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
