New Family Respite Home nearing completion

Another donation from the Solcz Family Foundation has helped Family Respite Services reach its fundraising goal for the construction of the new respite home.

The foundation donated $200,000 to complete the construction of the new home bringing their total donation to the project to $725,000.

"When you really look at the work they do, it's so impactful and important. When we did the tour initially of the original home, they really really needed an upgrade, that was evident. We were really happy to ignite this project and get it going," said Executive Director of the Solcz Family Foundation Kyrsten Solcz.

The Solcz Family Foundation Respite Home will give parents of children with significant challenges the opportunity for a break while their children engage in activities with trained professional staff.

"It's an updated space that really offers us flexibility and the opportunity for kids to be very involved in doing things in the home as well as out in the community," said Executive Director Catharine Shanahan.

Family Respite Services is able to respond to the urgent respite need providing crisis after school programs, weekend programs and a specialized summer day camp program. The organization supports over 1,200 families in the community and about 60 families will use the home on a regular basis.

Construction should be completed by the end of January.
