Firefighters were called to a home on Secord Avenue after 11 a.m. after it started in the kitchen.
Fire officials said crews did a "quick knockdown of the fire to limit damages."
Essex Fire Stations 3 and 2 responded.
There is no report of injuries.
People in southern Huron and Lambton counties are being told to limit their time outside.
