UPDATE: Amherstburg barn fire kills several animals, including kangaroo

Several animals are dead following a large barn fire in Amherstburg.

Emergency crews responded to the blaze in the 6900 block of Concession Road 6 North Friday morning.

Amherstburg Fire Department Assistant Deputy Chief Ron Meloche said the fire was fully involved when crews arrived and the building was lost.

The animals in the barn included a kangaroo, tortoises, rabbits, chickens, two puppies and some smaller reptiles.

"The owner said he had approximately 50 animals in the barn," said Meloche.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and resulted in approximately $125,000 in damages.
