Sale closed on land for Essex motel

A lodging establishment designed to boost the Windsor-Essex tourism industry is a step closer to reality.

The Town of Essex announced this week that the sale of land for the new Grove Motor Inn has gone through, culminating a year-long process between the town and project developers.

"The long-awaited development will offer a unique experience to local residents and tourists alike," said Mayor Richard Meloche in a media release. "This unique development will add tremendous value to our community and positively contribute to the local economy."

The two-floor, 28 room motel will be located on County Road 50 West in Colchester, not far from Colchester Harbour, and a short drive from area attractions such as Colasanti's, the wineries, the Pelee Island ferry, and cycling trails.

The development is part of Essex's Agri-Tourism Development Strategy, encouraging residents to spend additional time in the region by making more short-term lodging options available.

No timetable has been set for the completion of the motel.
