A dip in COVID-19 hospitalizations in Windsor-Essex

Windsor-Essex is seeing a dip in the number of residents hospitalized due to COVID-19.

As of 3:30 p.m. Friday, there was a total of 49 people with the virus in the region's three hospital systems. At Windsor Regional Hospital, 32 patients were being treated, with 16 of them admitted because of COVID-19, while the rest are in hospital for other reasons but have tested positive. Out of those 32 patients, 19 are fully vaccinated, with the rest either not or partially vaccinated. Four people are in intensive care, with two fully vaccinated.

Erie Shores Healthcare reported caring for 16 patients, with 13 of them primarily treated for COVID-19. Ten of those 16 patients have been fully vaccinated.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit reported 127 new COVID-19 cases in high-risk settings Friday. There were no deaths reported Friday.

There are 638 active high-risk cases in the region, though the health unit cautions that the number could be an underestimate due to current testing guidelines.

The health unit is currently monitoring 47 outbreaks. Eighteen of them are in the community, 16 are in LTC facilities, seven in workplaces, and six in hospitals.
