First-degree murder charges laid after assisted suicide

Two women are facing first-degree murder charges after the death of a 79-year-old woman.

According to a news release by the Windsor Police Service, the woman died in January 2022.

"Major Crime investigators launched an investigation after receiving information that the death of a 79-year-old female was a result of an assisted suicide," said Constable Talya Natyshak with the Corporate Communications Unit.

After an investigation, police identified two suspects who were related to the victim.

A 49-year-old woman and a 23-year-old woman were both arrested and charged with first-degree murder and aiding a suicide.

Police have not released the name of the victim or the accused to protect the integrity of the investigation.

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
