WECHU reports 271 new COVID-19 cases

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported 271 new high risk cases of COVID-19 over the long weekend.

There are now 305 known active cases in the community.

Windsor Regional Hospital is reporting 28 patients in its care and 16 of them have been admitted to be treated for COVID-19. There are four patients in the intensive care unit, three vaccinated and one unvaccinated.

At Erie Shores Healthcare there are seven patients admitted who have tested positive.

The health unit continues to monitor 27 active COVID-19 outbreaks in the region.

To date, 82.4 per cent of eligible residents have been fully vaccinated against the virus. Only 53 per cent of people over the age of 18 have had their booster shots.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
