WECHU reports death of man in his 20s

A man in his 20s has died after testing positive for COVID-19.

His was one of two new deaths reported by the Windsor Essex County Health Unit on Thursday afternoon. A man in his 90s also recently passed away. There have been 576 COVID-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

The health unit also reported 131 new high-risk cases, bringing the known active cases up to 316.

Windsor Regional Hospital currently has 31 COVID-19 positive patients in its care, but only 10 have been admitted for treatment of the virus. There are four patients in the intensive care unit, three of whom are fully vaccinated.

Erie Shores Healthcare is treating seven COVID-19 positive patients.

The health unit is monitoring 23 active outbreaks in the region.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
