Region sees spike in overdoses

The system that monitors opioid incidents in the Windsor region has seen a spike over the last week.

There have been eight opioid overdoses reported by Windsor Regional Hospital and Erie Shores Healthcare, six of which involved fentanyl. Windsor Regional Hospital also reported five additional fentanyl incidents during the same time period.

These values fall below the five-year average but above the two-year average for the same week.  EMS also recorded nine substance use-related calls over the same period.

The Windsor-Essex Community Opioid and Substance Strategy monitors these incidents to identify trends and find links between the reported cases.

Two men arrested in Tashmoo Ave. standoff

Sarnia police said the investigation began on May 29 after the victim was allegedly attacked by acquaintances at a residence near Tashmoo Avenue and Christopher Drive at Aamjiwnaang First Nation.
