14-year-old charged with stunt driving in Lakeshore

While most kids their age slept or enjoyed some late night playing video gaming, the Ontario Provincial Police say these three young teens were joyriding.

The OPP has charged a 14-year-old with stunt driving after an officer pulled over a Chevrolet Camero, going 209 km/h in an 80 zone.

That was on County Road 22 near Wallace Line in Lakeshore around 1:40 a.m.

There were also two passengers in the sports car. Both are just 13-years-old.

"The inexperience of this driver, coupled with the extraordinarily excessive speed, could have resulted in three very young lives being lost," said Essex County OPP Traffic and Marine Staff Sergeant Jamie Smith. "Thankfully, our officers are always out on community roadways, conducting enforcement, and in this case, these young people are safe."

The vehicle has been impounded.

The charge has not been proven in court.
