COVID-19 outbreak declared at ESHC

Erie Shores HealthCare is suspending visitation for the 2-Centre inpatient unit after an outbreak of COVID-19 was declared.

Two patients on the unit have tested positive for the virus. This is the first outbreak within a unit at ESHC since the start of the pandemic.

The hospital believes the patients were infected by a visitor who attended the unit. The visitor tested negative on a hospital-administered rapid antigen test prior to the visit but later tested positive for the virus.

All other visitors to the hospital must continue to pass a rapid-antigen test each day they visit and wear a mask and eye protection in all areas of the hospital. Patients are allowed two visitors, with one allowed at the bedside at a time.
